Kevin Feige confirms that Scarlett Johansson may get a solo film soon, and that her character plays an important role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Will The Black Widow get her own solo adventure on the big screen? She just might, if Marvel’s Kevin Feige has his way about it.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be the third time Scarlett Johansson has portrayed Natasha Romanoff, the assassin otherwise known as Black Widow, in a Marvel movie following her debut in Iron Man 2 and her much more substantial role in Marvel’s The Avengers. But talk of a standalone film hasn’t ever really materialized. Now, in an interview with Total Film, Marvel president Kevin Feige has confirmed that a Black Widow solo adventure is still in development.
He also confirms that the character will play a very big part in the storyline of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and that she has a solid future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.
“[Black] Widow’s part in that is very big. [In Avengers: Age of Ultron], we learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”
Kevin Feige then went onto reiterate how much of an impact Captain America: The Winter Soldier will have on the Avengers: Age of Ultron storyline, and that repercussions will ripple throughout Marvel Phase Three.
“We wanted to change the dynamic of the cinematic universe with this film. We wanted Cap and really the entire cinematic universe to be very different at the end of Winter Soldier than it is at the beginning. Therefore when we meet the Avengers at the top of Age of Ultron, it’s a very different landscape than we left them at the end of the film. Partially that’s because we love the rhythm that the comic books have developed – each of the characters appear in their runs, occasionally they get together for a big event or crossover series, they part again, and then they come back together again.”
Are you excited about The Black Widow standalone adventure? Or do you think the character is better suited as a sidekick in other Marvel movies?
